A Summer Breeze arrived in 2022 from the studio of Michael Salazar, a perfumer whose work centers on the unusual pairing of cucumber, bergamot, and a soil tincture. It's a composition that trades nothing for safety, built instead around the tension between open-air freshness and something rooted, literally, in the ground. The cucumber reads cold and green, almost like snapping a fresh vine between your fingers, while the bergamot adds a sharp citrus peel brightness that lifts the whole structure. Then the soil tincture slides in underneath, introducing an earthy, loamy weight that prevents the fragrance from ever feeling weightless or thin. The contrast is the point. This isn't a breezy aquatic that floats off the skin and disappears.
The composition earns attention through its base layer. A soil tincture anchors the otherwise airy aquatic structure, adding a damp, mineral depth that most breezy fragrances never attempt. Layered over white musk, ambergris, and Ambroxan, that soil accord prevents the fragrance from floating away.
