    Michael Salazar

Michael Salazar grew up in a home where incense, cooking spices, and fresh-cut flowers formed the backdrop of daily life. Early experiments with kitchen aromas sparked a fascination that survived several career pivots—first as a chef, then as an emergency‑room technician. Each role taught him precision, timing, and the power of scent to calm or energize. In 2015 he turned a weekend hobby into a disciplined practice, formulating blends for friends and local boutiques. The positive response encouraged him to launch Aromas de Salazar, a boutique lab that supplies accords to independent houses and collectors worldwide. Over the past eight years he has authored more than sixty‑seven fragrances, each bearing his signature focus on ingredient integrity. Today he balances lab work with teaching, sharing his methodical approach with aspiring noses while continuing to expand his personal catalogue.

    How Michael composes

In the lab Salazar builds each perfume from the ground up, preferring to craft his own accords before layering them into a final composition. He favors natural absolutes such as jasmine, labdanum, and Haitian vetiver, pairing them with select synthetics that enhance longevity without masking authenticity. His process begins with a single note that captures his intended mood; he then adds supporting elements, constantly testing on skin to gauge evolution over time. Unisex structures dominate his portfolio, reflecting his belief that scent should not be confined by gender. He often finishes a piece with a subtle mineral or ambergris note, granting depth while preserving clarity. The result is a clean, balanced fragrance that rewards repeated wear.

    Philosophy

    What drives Michael

Salazar treats perfumery as a dialogue between chemistry and feeling. He believes that every molecule carries a story, and his task is to let that story speak without clutter. Rather than chasing trends, he studies the behavior of each raw material, noting how temperature, humidity, and skin chemistry alter perception. This scientific curiosity blends with an emotional compass; he aims to trigger a specific memory or mood in the wearer. Transparency guides his choices—he sources ingredients that meet strict purity standards and labels each accord with its origin. For Salazar, a fragrance succeeds when it feels both inevitable and surprising, inviting the wearer to explore their own senses.
