The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ariana Grande wanted to bottle a feeling she described as the perfect fluffy moment, an delicate high that feels weightless and joyful. After her 2015 debut with Ari, she kept working closely with Luxe Brands and in 2018 turned to perfumer Clément Gavarry to turn that idea into something you could actually spray. The brief was deliberately airy, designed to capture something between daydream and dessert, and Gavarry responded with a fruity-gourmand structure built on berries and tropical accents that would feel familiar yet distinctive.
The note selection reflects a deliberate choice to keep the composition feeling open and buoyant. Even the deeper elements, like amberwood and moss, are used in measured doses so the overall impression stays light. Coconut water and ambrette are clever additions because they provide texture and warmth without pulling the scent toward anything heavy. The result is a fragrance that reads as effortless rather than engineered, which is exactly what the original brief asked for.
The evolution
The fragrance moves like a tide. It starts bright and almost giddy, with berries and pink pineapple creating an immediate impression that is juicy, fun, and distinctly youthful. As the minutes pass, the fruity cocktail softens and vanilla orchid takes the lead, warmed by ambrette and coconut water to feel creamy without going heavy. By the time praline and amberwood arrive, the scent has settled into something quietly confident, grounded by musk and moss so the sweetness never tips into saccharine territory. The arc is smooth, predictable in the best way, and it stays close to the skin like a well-worn sweater that still feels good to wear.
Cultural impact
Cloud captured the public’s imagination, earning the Fragrance Foundation’s Women’s Popular Fragrance of the Year in 2019. Its sweet‑gourmand profile sparked countless social‑media recreations, often likened to a softer, more approachable Baccarat Rouge 540. The scent became a staple for younger fragrance fans, cementing Ariana Grande’s status as one of the most commercially successful celebrity perfume creators.
