The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Antiquity II began as an Extrait, a study in peach aldehyde against classical florals, with enough sweetness to play in warmer territory. The composition explored the tension between aldehydic fruit and traditional floral structures, finding its balance in the interplay of sweetness and depth. The decision to translate this concept into an Attar concentration came from a desire to strip alcohol from the equation entirely, letting the raw materials speak without the diffusion mechanism softening their edges. By removing the alcohol base, the fragrance shifts into a different register where the materials breathe more slowly and the full complexity of each component becomes more apparent, allowing the aldehydic warmth and floral heart to unfold with greater presence and intimacy on the skin.
The Attar format changes everything about how this fragrance breathes. Moving away from alcohol as a diffusion medium, the Attar concentration allows the fragrance to express itself through pure oil and essence rather than through engineered evaporation. Peach aldehyde reads differently here: less candy, more waxy blossom, the kind of sweetness that feels like it belongs to an old bottle rather than a new release. Cambodian oud, which appeared in the original as a supporting character, steps forward in the Attar.
The evolution
The opening arrives restrained. Peach aldehyde and bergamot sit close to the skin, the aldehydic lift giving the fruit a slightly waxy, almost candied quality that recalls classical perfumery rather than modern sweetness. Bergamot provides a bright citrus counterpoint that lifts the aldehyde warmth, keeping the top registers airy without sacrificing depth. Then the florals begin their work: carnation's spice threads through violet leaf's green waxy quality, angelica seed adding an herbal lift that stops the composition from tipping into sweetness. Cambodian oud arrives as a medicinal, complex presence, slightly sweet and assertive, layering beneath the floral heart. Indonesian patchouli adds its earthy, chocolate-dark presence beneath, grounding the composition as it evolves.
Cultural impact
Antiquity II Attar exists within a contemporary niche perfumery landscape that values artisanal approaches and material-driven compositions. The Attar format represents a concentration choice that emphasizes authenticity over engineered performance, appealing to collectors who prioritize how a fragrance is made as much as what it contains. Oil-based alternatives to traditional alcohol fragrances offer a different relationship with scent, one that unfolds more gradually and maintains closer contact with the skin.
