The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Eau Fraîche Citrus Marino arrived in 2019 from Angel Schlesser, created by perfumer Amandine Clerc-Marie. The name itself tells you what it's after, a maritime citrus. The fragrance anchors its marine element with vetiver, oakmoss, and a whisper of vanilla. The overall effect is bright and aquatic without veering into tropical territory, offering freshness that feels grounded rather than purely escapist.
The decision to layer seven top notes, lemon, sea notes, bergamot, tangerine, galbanum, red thyme, black pepper, suggests a citrus opening with real complexity. Lemon and bergamot provide the expected brightness, but galbanum adds a green quality that prevents the opening from feeling generic. Red thyme and black pepper introduce an aromatic, faintly spicy dimension that most marine fragrances skip entirely. It's this herbal backbone that adds depth to the aquatic accord, giving the composition something to consider beyond the surface level.
The evolution
The opening announces itself immediately: lemon sharp and clean, bergamot providing brightness, a wave of aquatic notes that hits with a salt spray effect. Tangerine adds a flash of warmth before the herbal notes take over. Vetiver introduces itself as earthy and slightly smoky, grounding the composition. Geranium adds a floral quality that keeps the heart from feeling austere. The drydown is where this fragrance becomes personal. Oakmoss and musk blend into something that reads as warm skin, with tonka bean and vanilla adding a sweetness that stays intimate and close.
Cultural impact
Some wearers find marine fragrances refreshing, others find them synthetic. Citrus Marino offers a citrus aromatic fragrance with enough herbal complexity to appeal to those who want more than salt and sunshine. The marine element creates a bold coastal presence that stands apart from simpler aquatic interpretations. Worn best in warmer months, during daytime, and in settings that reward subtlety over statement.
