The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Itinerantur takes its name from itinerary, a route marked in advance, yet always subject to the detours that define it. This fragrance builds around a cedar spine, with warm woods supporting a base of myrrh and copal resin. Siam benzoin adds resinous glow without any cloying sweetness. Bergamot and cardamom open the sequence, bright, almost tart, before the wood takes permanent residence. The overall effect is architectural yet inviting, a fragrance that reveals itself in layers rather than all at once. What emerges is a fragrance with a clear trajectory, one that shifts from bright citrus and spice through warm wood to lingering resinous depth. The cedar provides structure throughout, while the surrounding notes interact and develop.
The cedar body is unusual in how it's structured, not one cedar but three, each lending a different register to the whole. Atlas cedar brings a dry, almost mineral quality. Himalayan adds warmth and slight camphor. Lebanon cedar grounds the middle with something close to pencil shavings, that clean woody note that feels familiar without being common. Ebony is the dark punctuation here, not sweet or smoky but simply dark, the negative space that makes the cedars read louder. Sandalwood keeps the whole structure from drying out, a creamy counterweight that only announces itself in the drydown, when the citrus has faded and the resins begin their slow warmth.
The evolution
The opening hits with an acidic citrus bite, bergamot's tartness sharpened by cardamom's green spice. That combination lasts for some time before the cedar begins to assert itself. The cedar doesn't arrive gently. Atlas cedar takes the lead first, dry and almost austere, while Himalayan cedar follows shortly after with a slight camphor lift that keeps things interesting. Ebony darkens the middle registers, giving the cedar something to lean against. Sandalwood stays below the surface, adding warmth without announcing itself. As the fragrance progresses, myrrh and copal resin enter the composition, bringing resinous character that is slightly medicinal but not heavy. Siam benzoin provides a warmth that lingers without sweetness, creating a soft foundation. The drydown is intimate, with all the elements settling into a cohesive whole.
Cultural impact
Itinerantur doesn't perform. Sillage sits in the moderate range, present to those beside you, invisible from across the room. The opening delivers bright citrus and warm spice, with bergamot and cardamom creating an immediate impression that feels fresh and grounded. As the fragrance develops, cedar emerges as the dominant character, dry and woody, providing structure. A subtle resinous quality in the base adds depth. The overall effect rewards continued wearing. It's the kind of scent that someone reaches for again and again, finding something slightly different each time as the notes interact with their skin.
