The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ivvavik National Park stretches across Canada's Yukon territory, where the tundra meets the boreal forest. The name means birthplace in Inuvialuktun. Jordi Magrans discovered it during a sourcing trip, traveling to buy cedarwood from Virginia and Canada. Sleeping under stars surrounded by those woods, he stayed longer than planned, captivated by the landscape. The fragrance captures that connection to northern wilderness, inspired by the vast open spaces and the quiet of the far north.
What makes Ivvavik unusual is how it combines two whiskey traditions without tipping into novelty. Bourbon whiskey and Scotch whisky appear alongside Canadian cedarwood, materials the brand sourced from that region during their travels. Spanish craftsmanship meets Canadian raw materials in a composition built from real ingredients with real provenance. The cedarwood and floral varieties discovered on that trip lend depth and character to the formula.
The evolution
The opening hits with bourbon first, then Virginia cedar cutting through with conifer clarity. Nutmeg lingers in the background, adding warmth without sweetness. The whiskey softens and the flowers arrive: violet making itself known, then the quieter presence of trillium and wild rose. The cedar remains the spine throughout, but it's cedar with a boozy edge now, almost medicinal. The resins take over as time passes. Oakmoss and spikenard settle into a resinous drydown that stays close to the skin, moderate sillage, not a room-filler, but it lingers. The cedar persists, giving the fragrance a woody, warm finish that reveals complexity gradually rather than all at once.
Cultural impact
Ivvavik occupies a niche within woody-gourmand compositions, combining cedarwood and whiskey in a way that feels both familiar and distinct. The cedarwood-whiskey combination sits comfortably in that space, though the whiskey stays structural rather than decorative. The fragrance reveals its complexity slowly, inviting the wearer to discover its nuances over time rather than presenting everything at once.
