The beginning
Oud Khususi arrived in 2020 from Al Fares, a house whose compositions lean into the materials that Arabic perfumery has long made its own. Bergamot and orange greet you like a handshake, bright, almost cheerful, the kind of opening that feels immediately familiar. Oud arrives a few minutes later and doesn't leave. The transition is where this composition earns its interest: the bright, recognizable top notes don't vanish, they just recede, and what takes their place carries more weight. Patchouli moves into the heart alongside a soft floral presence, and the base settles into a blend of amber, sandalwood, vanilla, and raspberry. The result is a fragrance that reads as warmer and more layered than its opening suggests, pulling recognizable citrus into conversation with woods and resin.
What makes Oud Khususi worth attention isn't the oud itself, plenty of releases lead with oud. It's the deliberate bridge between the bright citrus opening and the heavier material underneath. The patchouli and floral heart do real work here, rounding out what could read as a one-note smoke composition and giving it dimension. The raspberry-vanilla base is the surprise.
