The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Quentin Bisch returned from Reunion Island with ylang-ylang on his mind, heady, intoxicating, and relentless. The Givaudan perfumer had a clear goal: capture something beyond sweetness, beyond the usual floral playbook. Pure XS For Her arrived in 2018 with Emily Ratajkowski as its face, and a mes sage about desire that the house had been building since Paco Rabanne first challenged convention with chain mail and industrial materials in 1966 Paris.
The note selection reflects a deliberate choice to build warmth through contrast. Ylang-ylang provides the intoxicating floral anchor, but pairing it with popcorn and vanilla creates an unexpected sensory memory that feels both familiar and surprising. Coconut and peach amplify the tropical dimension, while sandalwood and amberwood ground the composition with creamy woodiness. The result avoids the typical sweet fragrance trap, instead offering something that feels warm, Intimate, and distinctly memorable. Each note serves the central goal: capturing desire as something warm, present, and impossible to ignore.
The evolution
The fragrance begins without preamble, ylang-ylang and coconut establishing a tropical warmth that feels simultaneously exotic and Intimate. Vanilla slides in to deepen the sweetness, while orange blossom and peach add dimension. As the scent develops, the unexpected addition of popcorn note emerges, buttery and warm, creating an olfactory memory that is uniquely playful. Amberwood and sandalwood arrive to anchor the sweetness, preventing it from floating away, while white musk keeps the composition close to skin. The experience is linear but never static, the interplay of creamy, fruity, and warm notes shifting slightly throughout wear.
Cultural impact
Rabanne built its fragrance identity on provocation, bold statements in bottles, compositions designed to create a reaction. Pure XS For Her continues that lineage with its sweet-gourmand-meets-sexy-floral positioning. The brand has established a recognizable aesthetic built on tension and contrast, and this fragrance leans into that philosophy. It occupies a confident, sensual space, unafraid of sweetness and designed to make an impression. The composition blends familiar edible notes with heady florals in a way that feels both comforting and daring, creating a scent that invites curiosity and rewards attention.
