The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name says it: Jardin des Thés is a garden of teas, though not in any literal sense. Acorelle had already established itself in natural and organic perfumery. The task was to bring that botanical clarity into a green-spicy composition that didn't rely on the usual suspects. The result arrived in 2021. The fragrance opens with bright citrus and cool mint, a clean and direct beginning that sets expectations before subverting them slightly. Beneath that initial freshness, a green bitterness keeps things honest. A flicker of cardamom hints at spice without overwhelming. Then the composition shifts, the herbal quality emerging as the heart develops, with angelica and marjoram adding layers of complexity.
What makes this work is the powdery effect achieved without aldehydes, a technical constraint Acorelle has built its philosophy around. The iris does the heavy lifting here, creating that soft dust-and-hay finish that usually requires synthetic help. Combined with the herbal heart of cannabis, angelica, and marjoram, the fragrance moves from bright citrus into territory that smells more like a kitchen garden than a perfume counter. It's green, it's honest, and it's more interesting than most things wearing the word 'fresh' as a badge.
The evolution
Lemon and mint arrive first, clean, direct, the opening you'd expect. Galbanum adds a green bitterness underneath, keeping it honest. Cardamom flickers briefly before tea steps in to bridge everything. Then the heart opens slowly: cannabis reads as herbal, not anything else, angelica and marjoram adding depth without drama. The powder arrives as iris begins to surface, adding a soft, powdery quality that shifts the composition. By the time the drydown arrives, sage, dried herbs, and hay wrap around a warm guaiac wood base. The iris doesn't disappear, it lingers, settling into skin like dust in afternoon light. Close to the body, intimate, present for you even if no one else notices. The sillage remains subtle throughout, wrapping around the wearer rather than announcing itself to the room.
Cultural impact
Tea-based fragrances have maintained a presence in Western perfumery, offering a distinctive alternative to heavier scent profiles. The appeal of tea notes lies in their versatility: they read as fresh, clean, and sophisticated without being aggressive or overly sweet. This fragrance category continues to grow as designers explore how tea can translate into wearable compositions that feel both modern and timeless. The green, herbal, and sometimes slightly bitter qualities of tea notes provide an understated elegance that appeals to those seeking something refined without loudness.
