The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Nature Homme Collection launched in 2015 with three new fragrances for men who like refreshing natural compositions with prominent flavors of aromatic herbs, precious woods, and optimistic citruses. Bois de Cèdre et Citron Vert takes its name from the materials at its core: cedar wood and green lime. Perfumer Nathalie Gracia-Cetto built the composition around a masculine blend of tart woody notes, using lime to refresh the cedar and create something that reads as both precious and energizing. The naming is direct, what you see is what you get, in the best Yves Rocher tradition.
The tension between three notes makes this work: lime's tartness cuts through the dry weight of cedar, while mint adds a lift that keeps the whole thing from feeling heavy. It's the kind of structure that sounds simple on paper but delivers something coherent in practice. Cedar provides the dry, slightly sere woodiness that keeps the citrus from going flat. Lime brings the tart juiciness. Mint is the quiet connector, airy leaves that let the other two breathe. No unnecessary complexity. Just the three materials doing exactly what they should.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, lime's tartness arrives first, cutting through with an unsweet brightness that wakes the senses. Mint follows, lifting the citrus skyward, adding a cool green lift that elevates the initial burst. Then the hand-off arrives: mint fades as cedar steps forward, its dry weight grounding what was previously airborne, bringing a warm woody depth that balances the brightness. The drydown settles into a whisper of cedar that lingers close to the skin, never projecting beyond arm's length. A reviewer has caught a trace of sandalwood appearing late in the drydown, though it's not listed in the official pyramid. The sillage stays intimate throughout, this is a fragrance that keeps to itself rather than announcing its presence to the room.
Cultural impact
Bois de Cèdre et Citron Vert sits comfortably in the Nature Homme Collection, offering quiet confidence for men who want to smell clean without announcing themselves. The fragrance aligns with the brand's philosophy of natural character over complexity. Some wearers appreciate it as a scent for those who don't need to prove anything, a fragrance that speaks softly while still making its presence known to those nearby.
