Pacific Crim arrives from YAMM Genève as part of the brand's Édition Interdite collection, released in 2025. The scent reads as a deliberate departure from safe territory, built by perfumer Florian Vicario around an unlikely axis: fruit and herbs sharing the same composition. The name suggests something coastal, something with bite, and the structure leans into that tension rather than away from it. There's a sharpness to the opening that pulls you in before the warmer, greener elements begin to surface, creating an immediate sense of contrast that defines the first impression.
What's unusual here is the structural decision to open with sharp citrus and blackcurrant, then steer the heart toward basil and carrot seed instead of a conventional floral. May rose does appear, but it sits beside apricot and basil, giving the middle a slightly herbal character that keeps things from tipping fully sweet. The interplay between the rose's softness and basil's green bite creates a middle phase that feels alive and unsettled. The base of fig, dates, and ambrette seals the arc with a dry, skin-warm finish that lingers close to the body long after the brighter notes have faded.
The evolution
The opening is cold and vivid: blackcurrant cuts through citron and lemon, with coriander threading underneath and mint giving the first impression a metallic edge. Orange softens the corners but doesn't sweeten them, sitting somewhere between bright citrus and something almost candied in its roundness. As the initial sharpness settles, the fruit recedes and basil takes over, joined by an unexpected dusty earthiness from the carrot seed that grounds the composition. Apricot blooms slowly in the background, warm and slightly fuzzy, while May rose adds a powdery dimension that keeps things from tipping fully herbal. The composition then reorganizes itself, shifting from the green herbal phase into something denser. Fig arrives first, dry and woody, then dates lay down something rich and low, and ambrette gives the whole thing a skin-like warmth that reads almost musky.
