The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Illusion arrived in 2025 from YAMM Genève, a Swiss fragrance house stepping into a crowded space with a point of view worth listening to. Florian Vicario, credited as the perfumer and creative force behind the brand's early work, signed his name to this release as part of the Édition Interdite collection. The name Illusion does the heavy lifting on its own. Something that looks like one thing from across the room and reveals itself only when you lean in. That tension, between what seems effortless and what actually took thought, runs straight through the composition. The juice moves the same way it reads on paper: a confident opening that softens and reshapes itself as the hours pass, rewarding patience with layers you only catch at close range. Wear it on skin and the shift is immediate.
The note structure plays the same game. Calabrian bergamot, citron, and Sicilian orange open bright and Mediterranean, all sunshine and clarity. Then Tunisian neroli, Nigerian ginger, and Ceylonese cinnamon pull the temperature up without losing the thread. The base, Chinese black tea, frankincense, guaiac wood, and Ambroxan, grounds everything in something smoky and mineral. It's a citrus aromatic on paper, but the backbone is what gives it weight.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are almost aggressive in their clarity. Calabrian bergamot and citron hit like citrus oil pressed between your fingers, sharp enough to cut through whatever else you're wearing. Sicilian orange softens the edges just enough. Then the shift happens, and it happens fast. Tunisian neroli arrives with its green, almost bitter edge, while Nigerian ginger stacks underneath it, warming the composition from the ground up. Ceylonese cinnamon doesn't sit politely in the background. It builds. By the one-hour mark, the fragrance has settled into something warmer, spicier, and considerably more grown-up than the opening suggested. The drydown is where Illusion earns its name. Ambroxan takes over as the central voice, a synthetic skin-warmth that reads as musk without actually being musk.
Cultural impact
As a 2025 release, Illusion arrives with the particular energy of a brand putting a stake in the ground early. Its placement inside the Édition Interdite collection gives it a curatorial weight, and the composition itself reads as deliberate rather than rushed. The choice to anchor a citrus-spice structure around tea and frankincense rather than the more predictable musk or vanilla base signals a perfumer interested in where the citrus-aromatic category can still go. There's a confidence in the release that doesn't need to announce itself. It simply wears well and lets the wearer decide what it means to them.
