Why it exists.
The beginning
Juniper + Salt arrived in 2018, the year Womo turned its attention to something less tactile and more atmospheric. Where Black Tobacco and Incense + Cardamom had leaned into indoor warmth, this one chased a coastline. The perfumer behind it is Luca Maffei, and the brief seems to have been: take a juniper berry and put it somewhere it has never been asked to go. Juniper + Salt is built without a literal ounce of seawater but engineered to read as if there is salt on your lower lip. The opening is bracing rather than friendly, a crack of pink pepper and cardamom over a green, bitter juniper heart with cumin already warming the shadows.
What makes the composition unusual isn't the juniper or the salt, it's the company they keep. Womo dragged the sea inward through cumin and cardamom, herbs that run warm and almost animal, rather than reaching for the obvious aquatic shorthand. Ultrazur handles the marine effect, but quietly, almost as a ghost note. The oakmoss and labdanum in the base do more structural work than you'd expect, anchoring something that could easily have slipped into novelty. They hold the whole herbal-saline frame together, keeping the spices tethered while the salt does its evaporative work on top.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are a bright, sharp overture, almost a dare. Pink pepper and cardamom crackle at the surface while the lemon does its job, and the juniper reads green and bitter in a way that feels bracing rather than pleasant. Cumin is already lurking in that opening, the warm shadow behind everything else. By the half-hour mark the salt note arrives properly, not as a marine accord but as a sensation on the skin, dry and mineral, slightly cooling. The bay leaf and clary sage take over the heart and the whole thing settles into an herbal, slightly dusty calm. Ultrazur is doing quiet work here, maybe more felt than smelled. Three hours in and you're squarely in the base. Cedarwood and Haitian vetiver give it a dry, almost pencil-shaving quality, with oakmoss providing the earthy friction. Labdanum smolders underneath without ever becoming sweet.

Juniper + Salt reads as an unconventional take on coastal perfumery, delivering a seaside atmosphere through spice, wood, and salt rather than the usual calone-driven approach. The cumin and cardamom bring warmth that most marine fragrances keep out, and the herbal heart keeps the whole thing from drifting into clean-and-clinical territory. Within the Womo catalogue, it offers a lighter counterweight to the smoky intensity of Black Tobacco, a quieter moment in a lineup that otherwise trends dense and resinous.
