The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Womo, founded in Greece in 2013, has always chased raw, elemental pairings. Splash Out was born from that ethos, dedicated to men who treat water as their natural element. The house wanted a scent that felt like a plunge into the Aegean, where bright citrus meets the briny sea. Perfumer Vasso approached the brief by selecting bitter orange and yuzu for their complex citrus character rather than standard orange notes, aiming to create an opening that felt both vivid and unexpected.
The pairing rationale centers on contrast: citrus brightness against aquatic coolness, green florals against warm spices, earthy base against clean musk. Womo selected these specific materials because bitter orange and yuzu offer a more complex citrus profile than standard orange, while water lily extends the aquatic theme beyond typical marine notes. Cardamom and the pepper duo create warmth that prevents the fragrance from feeling overly fresh or seasonal, allowing Splash Out to transition through cooler months without losing its essential character.
The evolution
The opening delivers bitter orange and yuzu with immediate impact, kumquat adding a tart tropical twist. As the citrus fades over the first hour, geranium and water lily take over, their green and aquatic qualities creating a seamless transition. Cardamom, pink pepper, and white pepper arrive next, adding warmth and a subtle spiced quality that prevents the heart from feeling too soft. By the second hour, patchouli emerges with earthy depth, supported by woody notes and rounded off with clean musk for a drydown that feels both grounded and refreshingly minimal.
Cultural impact
Wearers describe Splash Out as a seaside adventure, often likening its marine‑citrus start to Womo’s Juniper + Salt (2018). The fragrance fits the summer‑café vibe, attracting those who crave a fresh, peppery edge without overwhelming the senses. It has become a staple in coastal gatherings, symbolizing carefree summer evenings.
