The beginning
Signature Summer landed in 2008 as part of Tova Beverly Hills' Signature collection, fragrances built around the idea that a signature scent should work as hard as the person wearing it. The brief was simple: capture the feeling of a summer afternoon that refuses to end. Not the blazing noon heat, not the sharp evening chill, something in between. The golden hour before sunset when the light goes soft and everything slows down.
What makes this composition work is the aldehydic lift threading through the citrus and florals. Aldehydes do something specific: they add brightness without adding weight, and they give the fragrance a certain presence, a feeling of polish and intention that separates this from a standard fresh scent. Without that aldehydic quality, Signature Summer would be a pleasant citrus-floral. With it, something more interesting happens. The bergamot and grapefruit open sharp and clean, but the aldehydes lift them into something with more dimension, more character.
The evolution
The opening is all citrus sparkle, bergamot, grapefruit, and that aldehydic lift creating immediate brightness. For the first thirty minutes, this is cool and crisp, the kind of scent that reads clean and confident. Then the heart takes over: lavender and jasmine arrive quietly, the jasmine threading through the composition with a floral sweetness that tempers the sharpness. The lily adds a certain powdery softness. By the second hour, the drydown settles into sandalwood, musk, and amber, a warm, skin-close base that lingers for hours. On fabric, it lasts longer than on skin. The sillage stays moderate throughout, intimate rather than commanding, but what it leaves behind is warm and present.
