The beginning
Valiant Soul joined The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection in 2025, a line built around reinterpretations of established fragrances. The nose behind it is Mahsam Raza, the brand's perfumer. It draws its blueprint from Parfums de Marly's Valero, a reference point the brand uses to deliver a similar aromatic-fougère architecture at a different price tier. The composition reads woody aromatic, leaning on a structure of bergamot, citron, and juniper over a heart of bourbon geranium, cypress, lavender, and nutmeg, finishing on ambroxan, Indonesian patchouli, and sandalwood. The opening hits with that brisk citrus trio, the juniper slicing through the bergamot and citron with a cool, almost gin-like botanical edge that wakes up the nose before the warmer materials start registering.
What sets this composition apart from a standard aromatic fougère is the bourbon geranium in the heart, a specific chemotype that shapes how the middle unfolds. The base is anchored by Indonesian patchouli, and that choice lets the ambroxan breathe rather than getting buried under heavier soil. The juniper at the top is doing something most citrus openings don't: it's adding a gin-like botanical sharpness that bridges into the lavender and cypress below.
The evolution

From there, the bourbon geranium takes over, more substantial than the opening suggested. Once the lavender and cypress have settled into a clean aromatic spine, the ambroxan starts surfacing and reshaping the composition's center of gravity. The base phase is where this fragrance earns its longevity: Indonesian patchouli and sandalwood create a dry, woody foundation that stays close to skin for hours. The sandalwood is creamy without being heavy, and the ambroxan gives it a skin-like warmth that reads as part of you rather than on top of you.
