The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Centaur Constellation arrived in 2024 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection. The perfumer, Mahsam Raza, built the scent around a warm woody amber skeleton, opening with cardamom, cinnamon, pink pepper, and tobacco before the spices hand off to a creamy heart and a resin-heavy base. The name itself suggests something half-mythological, half-celestial, a creature rooted in the earth mapped against the stars. That tension runs through the juice: grounded tobacco leaf, bright spice, then a lift of florals before the amber woods close everything down. It's a deliberate play between the physical and the imagined, a composition that treats its mythology as structure rather than decoration.
What's interesting here is how the composition balances three heavy hitters, tobacco, bourbon vanilla, and benzoin, against the bright lift of cardamom and pink pepper. The Centaur Constellation tries to hold both at once, and the heart is where that negotiation happens. Geranium and jasmine bring a faint green-floral coolness, while heliotrope adds its almond-vanilla whisper. Sandalwood in the middle rounds the edges before the base commits fully to warmth. The result reads as opulent without tipping gourmand, spicy without burning.
The evolution
On skin, the first 15 minutes are all about the spice cabinet. Cardamom and cinnamon hit the nose immediately, with pink pepper adding a dry heat underneath. The tobacco isn't smoky yet, more like the smell of cured leaf in a wooden humidor. As that top layer thins, the heliotrope starts to show, that almond-marshmallow sweetness that sits between the florals and the sugar. By the 30-minute mark, the jasmine and geranium push through briefly, but the warmth is already taking over. The heart fades into a dense, creamy base: benzoin and tolu balsam give it a resinous lacquer, while bourbon vanilla and tonka bean add that boozy, golden sweetness. The patchouli underneath keeps it grounded, earthy, slightly bitter. Ambroxan adds a clean skin-scent warmth that makes the whole thing smell like it belongs on a person.
Cultural impact
The Centaur Constellation sits within The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection. Wearers drawn to warm spicy orientals with real depth, tobacco, vanilla, balsam, find it delivers a layered, resinous drydown built around serious material choices. The fragrance pairs particularly well with cooler months and after-dark wear, reading as deliberate rather than incidental. The opening is immediate and unapologetic, with cardamom, cinnamon, pink pepper, and tobacco leaf creating a spice-driven first impression that doesn't hold back.
