The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sweet Burst Of Lychee 39 arrived in 2024 as part of The Dua Brand's catalog, a line built around accessible interpretations of beloved scent profiles. Mahsam Raza composed this one for women who want the bright, fruity-floral register without stepping into niche territory. Lychee leads the brief, but the real instruction is balance: tart fruit on top, candied florals at the center, a creamy amber-wood base that keeps the sweetness from drifting into confection territory. The composition moves with intention rather than just sugar. Up top, blackcurrant and Italian lemon snap against the tropical sweetness of lychee, setting up a bright opening that feels like cold fruit held in warm air.
The note structure here is deliberate. Blackcurrant and Italian lemon give the opening a tart, almost mineral edge, the kind that makes lychee's tropical sweetness feel grounded rather than syrupy. At the heart, candied violet pairs with Damask rose and jasmine sambac, three florals that could easily muddle into something cloying, but the red apple note cuts through with a crispness that keeps the composition breathing. The base is where it earns its longevity. Sandalwood and cedarwood provide a creamy, slightly dry spine, while vanilla absolute and amber add the warmth that holds everything together through the late hours.
The evolution
The opening belongs entirely to the fruit. Blackcurrant, lychee, lemon, sharp and almost effervescent, the kind of opening that reads bright on a warm day. The fruit notes are crisp and glistening, like something freshly picked, and the lemon slices through with a clean citrus snap that keeps the sweetness in check. As the composition breathes, the florals arrive, violet first, then Damask rose and jasmine sambac weaving in beneath it. The violet carries a candied, powdery edge, while the rose adds depth and the jasmine brings a creamy, almost narcotic warmth. Red apple never fully announces itself, but its crispness is what keeps this phase from tipping into candy territory, a quiet structural note doing the work behind the curtain. As the hours pass, the composition shifts weight. Sandalwood and cedarwood rise up through the sweetness, and vanilla absolute melts in alongside them.
Cultural impact
Sweet Burst Of Lychee 39 sits comfortably in the fruity-floral category that dominates modern mainstream fragrance, but its composition shows more structural care than the genre typically demands. The pairing of candied violet with Damask rose and jasmine sambac, anchored by a woody-creamy base, gives it a dimension that simpler sweet-floral compositions often lack. Most fruity-florals lean on sugar as their primary scaffolding, but this one builds from a more deliberate foundation, with the florals doing genuine work in the heart and the woods providing real grounding at the base.
