The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Caramel Drenched Nuts landed in 2024 from The Dua Brand, composed by perfumer Mahsam Raza as part of the house's Inspired Expression collection. The fragrance builds a gourmand profile around toasted nuts, caramel, and a generous pour of rum sweetness, all balanced against a woody, tobacco-tinged backbone. Raza's brief seems clear from the note list: take the most comforting, confectionary elements of perfumery and anchor them with materials that have actual structure. The composition leans into pistachio and almond as its core, coating them in layers of golden caramel and sticky honey before dousing the whole thing in a splash of dark rum. From the first spray, there's a sense that the sweetness is deliberate rather than accidental, designed to feel rich and layered rather than one-note.
What makes this composition worth a second look is the layering underneath the obvious gourmand hit. Black sesame CO2 adds a roasted, almost savory nuttiness that pushes the pistachio and almond beyond simple sweetness. Davana, an herb often described in terms of its fruity, boozy quality, bridges the rum top note with the vanilla and tonka heart in a way that feels intentional rather than accidental. The guaiac wood and tobacco do the heavy lifting, giving the caramel and honey something earthy to sit on instead of floating off into pure sugar.
The evolution
The first minutes are pure gourmand theater. Pistachio, almond, caramel, honey, and rum arrive all at once, warm and thick, like walking past a confectionery counter with the door open. Within fifteen minutes, the black sesame and davana start pulling the sweetness sideways, introducing a roasted, slightly herbal edge that keeps the composition from collapsing into one-note sugar. By the thirty-minute mark, vanilla, tonka, and tobacco settle into the heart, and the rum's booziness fades into something drier and warmer. The final hours belong to guaiac wood, patchouli, amber, and white musk, which hold the shape together with a creamy, slightly smoky softness. Sources rate both projection and longevity as above-average, with community feedback leaning toward strong performance for the category.
Cultural impact
Caramel Drenched Nuts wears well in cooler weather, when its toasted nut, caramel, and honey profile has something to lean against. The inclusion of black sesame alongside the more familiar pistachio and almond gives the composition a roasted, slightly savory quality that separates it from straightforward dessert territory. The tobacco and guaiac wood in the base keep the sweetness anchored, so the fragrance reads as warm and composed rather than cloying. It sits comfortably in the gourmand family while reaching for a bit more darkness than the usual sugar-and-vanilla template allows.
