The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Elevation arrived in 2022 from Spirit of Kings, a house that has built a reputation for fragrance as storytelling. It sits within the Wisdom collection, a more contemplative corner of the catalogue. Christian Provenzano, the perfumer behind it, built the composition around a single proposition: what does spiritual lift smell like when you strip away incense clichés and reach for something sharper, greener, more architectural? The result is a spicy leather that reads upward rather than inward. No smoke, no cathedral. Just altitude earned through contrast. There's a bite at the base of the throat, and warmth as the leather climbs.
The unusual move here is keeping the florals restrained. Rose appears, but orris root carries most of the floral weight, giving the heart a powdery earthiness rather than the jammy sweetness rose usually brings. Sage threads through as a dry, almost savory herb that bridges the green opening to the leather base. That orris-and-sage combination is what keeps Elevation from collapsing into standard spicy-leather territory. The leather arrives late and stays polished, never raw, never barnyard. It's restraint rather than spectacle. The orris root in particular deserves attention.
The evolution
The first 30 minutes are the loudest. Black pepper and lemon snap together like a struck match, bright enough to catch attention across a table, with cypress underneath lending a dry, resinous green that keeps the brightness from going sour. The citrus fades around the 45-minute mark, and sage steps forward alongside orris root, pulling the temperature down. The heart phase settles into something quieter, almost meditative, rose present but muted, the orris giving a powdery coolness that reads like cooled stone. Around the 3-hour mark, leather and sandalwood arrive in earnest, and vetiver anchors everything with its dry, smoky root. The drydown lasts well into the 8 to 10 hour range on most skin, with the leather softening further into a whisper that clings to fabric for another full day. Projection stays strong through the first 4 hours, then contracts to an intimate skin scent.
Cultural impact
Elevation has appeared in user-generated 'people who like this also like' listings alongside other spicy-leather fragrances in the niche space, reflecting its position within a broader category of herbal, leather-driven compositions. Its profile of green cypress opening into restrained florals and polished leather puts it in conversation with other contemporary niche releases that favor dryness and herbal sharpness over sweetness. The fragrance appeals to wearers interested in scent as craft, particularly those drawn to compositions that prioritize material restraint and structural coherence over immediate crowd-pleasing sweetness.
