The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Spirit of Kings launched Vigor in 2022 as part of its Private Collection, working with Christian Provenzano. The name says it all, this is a fragrance built for impact, not for comfort. Provenzano reached for materials that announce themselves immediately: wormwood's bitter-green bite, cardamom's warm spice, bergamot's citrus brightness cutting through it all. Where many compositions spend their first minutes earning attention, Vigor simply takes it. The house has built its identity on olfactory stories drawn from European court heritage, and Vigor translates that authority into a scent that doesn't negotiate for space. It's a statement of presence, the kind of fragrance someone reaches for when they need to feel the weight of what they're wearing.
The top notes do not ease you in. Wormwood, bitter, green, almost medicinal, arrives first, taking up space before anything else has a chance. Bergamot follows with a flash of citrus brightness that should soften the bitter edge, but instead amplifies it. Cardamom sits beneath, adding warmth that prickles rather than comforts. The effect is cinematic: an opening that commands attention rather than earning it. What makes this interesting is the absence of apology. Most fragrances spend their first minutes being polite. Vigor refuses.
The evolution
The opening announces itself in seconds. Wormwood's bitter-green presence fills the space around you, sharp enough to cut through everything else in the room. Bergamot adds brightness, but it's the cardamom that provides the warmth underneath, a warm spice that keeps the bitter from becoming harsh. Minutes pass. The heart opens: cypress and lavender arrive together, bringing an herbal coolness that grounds the sharpness above. Cinnamon adds a slow, building warmth beneath. The drydown takes over around the thirty-minute mark. Leather becomes the structure, dry, slightly animalic, present without being aggressive. Amber wraps around it with a honeyed sweetness. Patchouli adds earth underneath. Cashmere musk appears last, softening everything, wrapping it in something close to skin. The drydown on skin lasts for more than 10 hours. Sillage remains enormous through the first two hours, then settles to moderate projection for hours after. The next morning: leather and patchouli, still present, gentler now, close to skin.
Cultural impact
Since its 2022 launch, Vigor has found an audience among fragrance enthusiasts who appreciate bold, unapologetic compositions. The combination of strong leather, patchouli, and aromatic spice appeals to wearers who want something with real presence. Community reception leans positive for those who enjoy strong projections and longevity. The fragrance occupies a specific niche: aromatic, leathery, and warm, bold without being aggressive. A small segment of wearers finds the sillage too powerful for daily wear, preferring it for evening occasions or cooler seasons.
