The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Delirious arrived in 2025 as part of Spirit of Kings' Private Collection, a fresh floral musky composition signed by perfumer Christian Provenzano. The fragrance opens with a bright, almost reckless burst of bergamot, lychee, and nutmeg that refuses to behave like a traditional floral, a trio that feels deliberate and slightly discordant in the best possible way. The bergamot brings its familiar citric lift, the lychee layers in a candied, almost confectionery sweetness, and the nutmeg grounds both with a low, spicy warmth that keeps the opening from floating off the skin. From there, the composition pulls itself back toward something more wearable.
What makes Delirious structurally interesting is the lychee placement. In most mainstream designer releases, lychee shows up as a thin top-note sweetener, a passing brightness that's gone within twenty minutes. Here it threads through the opening alongside bergamot and the warmth of nutmeg, then carries its fruity energy into the heart where peony and Petalia and rose would normally read as a straightforward white-floral bouquet. The result is a peony rose that doesn't feel powdered or bridal.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are the boldest Delirious gets. Bergamot lifts on the skin, lychee hits almost candied, and nutmeg adds a low heat that keeps the sweetness from floating away. It reads bright, almost sharp, the kind of opening that makes you check your wrist twice. By the thirty-minute mark, the fruit softens and the peony and rose take over, but the lychee doesn't vanish. It lingers at the edges, giving the floral heart a juiciness that most rose-peony compositions lack. The Petalia sits within that heart accord, a supporting player in a bouquet that otherwise might have tipped into pure prettiness. Two hours in, the musk arrives, and with it the vanilla, which here is creamy and understated rather than gourmand. The drydown settles into a close-to-skin warmth, with the vanilla-musk combo staying soft and clean, the kind of finish that wears close without disappearing.
Cultural impact
Delirious by Spirit of Kings is a niche composition that draws on a combination of notes typically found across both mainstream and indie perfumery. The opening trio of bergamot, lychee, and nutmeg has become a recognizable shorthand in contemporary fragrance for warmth layered over fruit, a combination that shows up across a range of houses and price points. Within that broader context, Delirious approaches the accord with a slightly denser, spicier tilt than many of its peers, thanks largely to the nutmeg's presence in the opening phase.
