The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jade takes its name from the revered gemstone that symbolizes kindness, justice, intelligence, courage and purity in Middle Eastern lore. In 2016 Cyrill Rolland translated that symbolism into scent, pairing SoOud's reverence for agarwood with a rare amber blend to echo jade's luminous green shades. The perfumer chose to work without heavy oud, instead building warmth through amber and vanilla, then adding saffron for complexity that feels both precious and approachable.
The note structure reflects a philosophy of accessible luxury. Amber and vanilla provide immediate warmth that draws wearers in, while saffron adds the kind of complexity that rewards attention without demanding expertise. The heart balances jasmine with myrrh, creating aromatic depth that feels traditional yet refined. The base of patchouli, sandalwood and osmanthus grounds everything in woodiness while osmanthus keeps the foundation from becoming too heavy, creating a finish that feels both grounded and lifted.
The evolution
The fragrance moves from a warm amber-vanilla foundation, where saffron adds a subtle spice that catches attention without overwhelming. Jasmine enters the heart phase with its characteristic floral richness, supported by myrrh's resinous depth and white musks clean softness. The drydown settles into patchouli and sandalwood, creating a woody base that grounds the composition, while osmanthus adds a delicate fruity note that prevents the finish from becoming heavy. The evolution feels intentional, each stage building on the warmth established at opening.
Cultural impact
Jade by SoOud reflects a growing appreciation for Middle Eastern oud blends that balance traditional depth with modern gourmand accents. The inclusion of amber and vanilla creates a bridge between classic incense warmth and contemporary sweet comfort, resonating with a global audience seeking both heritage and novelty. Its saffron note adds an exotic spice that subtly references historic trade routes, inviting wearers to contemplate cultural exchange. This fragrance has sparked discussions on social media about the evolution of oud in Western perfumery, encouraging a dialogue that honors its origins while embracing new interpretations.
