The inspiration: a grand fougere. You take a train from the heart of the city out to the country. The platform is spotless, the weather cool and a little overcast, and good thing you brought the umbrella. You walk, nowhere in particular, just taking in the green and the scents of the flora and fauna around you. Virde Redux is the olfactory translation of that threshold, the moment the concrete gives way to hedgerow and wet pine bark. Soma Parfums released it in 2023 as part of The Modern Collection. The fragrance reads like a deliberate walk through damp vegetation after a light rain, the kind of morning where every footstep releases a small puff of petrichor from the soil.
What makes the composition interesting is how it refuses to sit still within the fougere category. Virde Redux adds pine needles and juniper to the top, pushing the opening toward something bracing and forest-edged. The patchouli in the heart carries weight without sweetness, and the base balances leather and oakmoss against ambery ambroxan, giving the drydown a mineral lift that keeps it from turning dusty or dated. The evolution

By the third hour, the composition shifts into its base: ambroxan brings a salt-warm minerality, cedar and sandalwood soften the woodiness, and oakmoss plus a thread of leather settle underneath.
