The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Bézi draws its name from the Zambezi, the river that flows over from the high plateaux of Zambia toward its estuary. The Tonga people revere Nyami Nyami, the river god who rules its waters, and it is Nyami Nyami's raw force that the fragrance channels, not as mythology but as attitude. Created by Olivier Pescheux for Scent of Africa and launched in 2023, Bézi sits within the Eternal Legends Collection. Pescheux worked from imagery of waterfalls and bare feet on African stone, channeling the continent's trio of emblematic materials into something that feels as direct and unapologetic as the river itself.
What separates Bézi from the usual fresh-spicy men's formula is its source gravity. The citrus that opens is clean and bright, not candied, while the black pepper comes with Madagascan fire, sharp enough to cut through the coolness without warming into anything sweet. The heart pairs Egyptian geranium with true lavender, the kind of dry-aromatic middle that holds structure rather than dissolving into the base.
The evolution
On skin, Bézi announces itself cold and bright. The citrus and black pepper arrive together within the first ten minutes, creating a sharp, almost bracing opening that reads more cologne than perfume. The pepper has real bite, the kind that makes you check the bottle twice. Around the thirty-minute mark, the lavender and geranium take over, and the composition shifts from cold to cool. The lavender here is herbal, almost medicinal, the way it smells in a field rather than in a soap. Geranium sharpens the edges without warming them. By the two-hour mark, the frankincense begins its slow climb, smoky and resinous, and the patchouli underneath gives it weight. The sandalwood arrives quietly, adding a creamy texture that keeps the smoke from drying out.
Cultural impact
Within the brand's lineup, Bézi carries a distinctive aromatic dryness that sets the tone for what the Eternal Legends Collection can be. Wearers tend to be people who want freshness with backbone, not the soft citrus-and-vanilla norm. The scent reads as confident and direct, the kind of fragrance that signals taste through restraint rather than loudness. It appeals to anyone drawn to compositions that value texture over sweetness, structure over decoration, and character over crowd-pleasing smoothness.
