Aromatic d'Azur landed in 2026 from Salum Parfums, an Italian house that's been bottling coastal hedonism since 2023. Perfumer Sofia Bardelli built it as a translation of a moment most people know: salty paths above the sea, cardamom riding the warm air, the particular green of cypress holding steady against a salt breeze. Not the postcard version of the Riviera, but the lived one. Sand in your shoes. The mineral coolness of water somewhere below the trail. Rosemary crushed underfoot and the faint sweetness of wild fennel growing in the cracks of dry stone. It's a composition designed to feel less like a fragrance and more like a place you keep returning to in your head.
What makes this one interesting is the restraint. Salum's catalog leans tropical, gourmand, indulgent. Aromatic d'Azur doesn't. It pulls the brand's coastal philosophy into a cooler, drier register, the moment before the holiday really begins, not the cocktail after. The pine note runs through the entire structure, top, heart, and base, anchoring the aromatic brightness against the ylang-ylang's yellow softness and the marine notes' cool mineral edge.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are bright and slightly sharp, bergamot cracking open over pine resin and the warm spiced edge of cardamom. It feels like stepping outside into morning light. The bergamot fades fast, but the pine stays, threading through everything that follows. Around the 30-minute mark the composition shifts. Ylang-ylang blooms underneath, giving the pine a creamy yellow softness it didn't have before. The marine notes arrive here too, not as a synthetic ocean splash but as something cooler, salt on warm stone, the smell of cypress after a long dry afternoon. Cypress itself sharpens the middle, keeping it from going too floral. The pine-nut note sits somewhere between nutty and resinous, an unusual warmth that most compositions skip over. Past the 2-hour mark, the top and heart are mostly memory. What remains is the wood: sandalwood first, soft and slightly powdery, cedar for structure, amber warming the whole thing from underneath.

This one trades the cocktail for a walk along a salt path. It shows a house willing to stretch its tropical instincts into greener, saltier territory without losing the warmth that makes the other compositions so recognizable. For the wearer, it's the Salum scent you reach for when you want coastal without the sweetness. The composition earns its salt-warm character by staying woody, dry, and grown-up about it.
