Why it exists.
The beginning
Sofia Bardelli designed Sparkling Tamarind for Salum Parfums' 2024 Treasure Island collection. The concept was deceptively simple: take the most universally recognized sweet-and-fizzy drink in the world and introduce it to the tart, sticky richness of tropical Tamarind. The challenge wasn't the pairing itself. It was making it feel intentional rather than gimmicky. Balsam Fir became the structural answer, a conifer resin that adds an unexpected green-sharp layer beneath the sweetness, forcing the composition to take itself seriously even as it flirts with playfulness. The opening hits with a burst of carbonated brightness, the citrus and cola notes dancing together in a way that feels immediately familiar yet entirely new.
What makes Sparkling Tamarind's structure interesting is the Balsam Fir choice. The cool resinous quality of fir balsam doesn't obviously belong next to sticky tamarind and sweet cola. But that's precisely what makes it work. The fir doesn't fight the sweetness. It sits underneath it, providing an aromatic counterpoint that stops the composition from becoming purely dessert-like.
