The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Gelsomino arrived in 2021 as part of the I Giardini Di Venezia collection. Perfumer Marypierre Julien built the composition around a superb jasmine, sensual and rich, then contrasted it with the crisp green of violet leaf and the quiet warmth of rose. Bergamot and mandarin provide a bright opening that gives way to the floral heart. The name means jasmine in Italian. The composition speaks for itself through its carefully balanced notes rather than through any explicit marketing language.
What makes Gelsomino interesting is the tension between its powdery florals and its woody base. Jasmine and violet leaf create that creamy, slightly vintage impression. But ambroxan, cedar, and sandalwood keep it grounded. The result is a white floral that doesn't float away. It stays close to the skin, intimate and warm, refusing to shout. Gelsomino sits in the middle, soft but substantial, powdery but modern. The interplay between the floral elements and the woody base creates a fragrance that feels both timeless and contemporary.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and sparkling. Petitgrain, mandarin, bergamot form a citrus trio. The mandarin adds a sweetness that feels natural. As this phase evolves, the jasmine begins to assert itself. Once it does, the whole composition shifts. The citrus recedes, and jasmine takes center stage, full, warm, enveloping. Violet leaf and rose layer in, softening the edges and adding that characteristic powdery quality. The drydown features cedar and sandalwood arriving quietly, but they anchor everything. Ambroxan adds a subtle warmth that keeps the fragrance close to the skin rather than projecting outward. It's a fragrance that stays with you, intimate, restrained, and surprisingly long-lasting for its weight.
Cultural impact
Gelsomino offers a distinctive take on jasmine. The powdery floral character provides an alternative to more traditional interpretations. Clean bottles and a muted presentation reflect the brand's philosophy of letting the fragrance itself be the focus. The scent appeals to those who appreciate depth and subtlety over moreassertive offerings.
