The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Dubai was created by Shadi Samra for RMK Perfumes, a UAE fragrance house. Its name points toward the city, yet the composition does more than decorate itself with a place. Saffron, grapefruit, and lemon arrive immediately, followed by rose, jasmine, geranium, gardenia, hyacinth, and lily of the valley. The structure moves from polished brightness into oud, patchouli, sandalwood, olibanum, vetiver, leather, labdanum, and musk. Nothing here feels accidental: citrus keeps the composition alert, florals soften its weight, and woods and resins lend it a dark, polished finish.
The unusual part is the negotiation between two kinds of grandeur. Oud brings depth, grain, and warmth, while grapefruit and lemon prevent that weight from settling too quickly. Rose adds a floral note that feels less like a bouquet and more like a trace of color across dark velvet. In the base, musk, oud, labdanum, sandalwood, patchouli, olibanum, vetiver, and leather turn the composition toward resinous warmth. The result is bold, but the arrangement keeps changing before it becomes static.
The evolution
The opening has a clean, reflective quality. Grapefruit and lemon cut through the saffron's warmth, while rose, jasmine, geranium, gardenia, hyacinth, and lily of the valley soften the brightness with a layered floral heart. Oud sits beneath them like polished wood, present almost from the first moment. As the heart develops, patchouli adds an earthy dark note, while sandalwood gives the composition a smooth, creamy woodiness. The floral accord keeps the middle from becoming too dense, allowing the darker materials to remain distinct. During the drydown, labdanum, musk, olibanum, vetiver, leather, and oud create a warm, textured base. The woody and smoky facets remain prominent as the composition settles, leaving a close, quietly complex impression on skin.
Cultural impact
Dubby presents RMK Perfumes' UAE identity through a fragrance built around oud, woods, resins, leather, citrus, and florals. The name evokes the city directly, while the composition explores how brightness, floral softness, and a dark woody base can be arranged around oud. Its cultural context is clearest in that meeting of place and material: Dubai is not merely a label here, but a framing device for a scent that moves from polished light to deep warmth.
The House
RMK PerfumesRMK Perfumes is a fragrance house born in Dubai in 2026, created around the close relationship between Emirati perfumery traditions and contemporary scent design. The house is associated with Sheikh Rashid Bin Mana Al Maktoum, who is credited with founding RMK Perfumery, and with a wider story that connects British fragrance heritage to Arabian olfactory culture. Its early collection includes Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Signature, each presented as a place-inspired or house-defining composition. Early reviews describe a clean, balanced character that feels fresh without becoming sharp, a useful indication of the direction the brand is taking. For discovery platforms, RMK represents a new Dubai-based name with a clearly articulated identity and a catalogue still early enough to evolve.
