The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mirage Suave is Reine de Saba's 2024 exploration of softness as a force. The name says it all, a mirage implies something that shifts, that changes depending on where you stand. Perfumer Nelly Hachem-Ruiz built this around the tension between warm, aromatic spice and cool, powdery florals. It's not trying to convince you of anything. It's there, then it isn't, then it's back, closer than before, settling into the evening like a conversation that started hours ago and never really ended.
The combination of star anise with orris root is unusual territory. Anise brings that warm, almost medicinal sharpness, the kind of note that can dominate or disappear depending on what surrounds it. Here, the orris does the work of softening the edges, bringing its characteristic powdery violet quality and a waxy, slightly floral depth that feels like expensive paper or the inside of a velvet box. Damask rose absolute adds body without sweetness, and when the myrrh and vetiver arrive in the base, the composition finds its final register, earthy, mineral, intimate. This is a fragrance that rewards patience. The spiced opening is just the invitation.
The evolution
The opening announces itself with star anise, sharp, aromatic, warming quickly. Cardamom arrives within seconds, softening the edges without dulling them. The warm spice builds and then the composition shifts as the orris begins to rise, bringing its powdery violet character with it. This is the hand-off, the warmth gives way to something cooler, more intimate, like the difference between speaking and whispering. The rose does not disappear so much as deepen, becoming less floral and more like the memory of a flower. Then the myrrh settles in, resinous and warm, followed by vetiver's earthy mineral quality. By hour three, you are wearing something close to the skin, warm, powdery, slightly resinous, lasting well into the evening without ever demanding attention. The sillage softens but the presence remains, a quiet companion through the day's final hours.
Cultural impact
Mirage Suave presents an anise-iris pairing that speaks to contemporary craftsmanship. The fragrance offers a powdery quality that appeals to those who find traditional orientals too assertive. Its character invites exploration across personal taste, encouraging wearers to experience how the composition unfolds on their own skin. The scent works beautifully in settings where subtlety matters, revealing its layers gradually rather than announcing itself all at once. Wearers discover in Mirage Suave a quiet sophistication that adapts to the individual, making each encounter feel personal rather than prescribed.
