The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name says everything. Potion Power, Police's 2021 release built around the idea of becoming someone different the moment you spray it. Perfumer Jordi Fernández structured the composition to mirror that transformation: a cool, controlled opening that gradually gives way to something warmer, more personal. Bergamot and lavender create that initial impression of someone put-together, maybe even buttoned-up. But cinnamon arrives mid-first-act, shifting the register entirely. This isn't a fragrance that stays on-brand throughout. It evolves, and that evolution is the point.
What makes Potion Power interesting is the contrast baked into every phase. The opening reads clean and almost aromatic, lavender doing heavy lifting alongside citrus and orange blossom. Then the heart introduces sweetness and warmth that feel like they belong to a different fragrance entirely. Cripps Pink apple and amber create a fruity-floral warmth that sits in sharp contrast to that crisp first impression. The base amplifies this further: powdery violet and jasmine over tonka bean and white musk, creating a drydown that is intimate, close, and significantly warmer than where it started. Six hours of this arc, cool to warm to close.
The evolution
The bergamot hits first. Bright, citrussy, immediate. Lavender follows within seconds, adding that slightly herbal, clean edge, the smell of a pressed shirt, the smell of intention. Thirty minutes in, the cinnamon announces itself. Not aggressive, but present, a small interruption that says this isn't going to be a straightforward fresh fragrance. The amber and apple arrive next, rounding everything into warmth. Violet adds its powdery hand-off around the ninety-minute mark. Then the drydown: tonka bean, white musk, woody notes settling into something skin-close and lasting. Six hours, sometimes more. The projection moderates after the first hour. What remains is intimate, close enough for the person next to you, gone for everyone else.
Cultural impact
Potion Power is Police's play for the everyday-man fragrance market, genuine complexity at an accessible price. The 2021 release fits into a landscape where more wearers want versatility over occasion-specific scent wearing. Not a statement fragrance. An everyday one. It slots into a broader Police lifestyle identity alongside their eyewear and accessories.
