The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
David Apel built Siano around yellow florals with an unexpected edge. Osmanthus and mimosa deliver honeyed nectar warmth, rich and full. Cognac brings depth: warm, intimate. Together they create a sweetness that feels natural and earned. But the green bell pepper arrives sharp and unexpected, cutting through the honey with an herbal bitterness that reframes everything. Sweet enough to draw you in. Green enough to keep you honest. That's the tension that makes Siano interesting, and the reason it lingers in memory long after the first spray.
Yellow florals sit somewhere between approachable and unusual. Osmanthus brings apricot sweetness, mimosa brings honeyed warmth, both lush on their own, but their real character emerges when grounded by something bitter. The green bell pepper note is rare in fine fragrance. It doesn't play well with delicate florals, which is exactly why it works here. Pairing that sharp snap with warm ylang-ylang creates an opening that balances green and floral before the sweetness takes over. The cognac anchors the base, shifting the florals into something deeper and more nuanced.
The evolution
The opening lands sharp. Green bell pepper arrives first, that clean herbal snap cutting through the air alongside ylang-ylang's tropical richness. It's unexpected, a moment of contrast before the sweetness fills in. The first hour holds this duality, green and floral pushing against each other. By the second hour, the florals take over. Osmanthus blooms warm and apricot-sweet, mimosa following with honeyed warmth. This is the heart, lush and full, a presence that fills the space around you. The drydown shifts once more. Cognac emerges as the florals recede, bringing warmth that settles close and intimate. Osmanthus lingers quietly beneath, that apricot quality staying near the skin. The base holds, woody and warm, a sweetness that has evolved into something more complex by the end.
Cultural impact
Siano occupies a distinctive space in the Phlur lineup, featuring yellow florals with an unusual green-floral tension. As a 2016 release, it represents the brand's approach to evoking specific moments and feelings through fragrance composition.
