The $kull Gold Edition Parfum is a 2024 collaboration between Philipp Plein himself and master perfumer Alberto Morillas. This is the gold-plated, Parfum-concentration upgrade to the brand's signature skull fragrance, built for someone who wanted the original's edge but with more weight, more presence, and a longer drydown. The Gold Edition carries the same confrontational DNA as the rest of the $kull line but pushes further into opulence, wrapping the spicy-aquatic core in richer materials and a heavier silhouette.
The combination of synthetic-aquatic notes with dark chocolate and bourbon vanilla is rare enough to feel intentional rather than accidental. Most fragrances that go aquatic stay aquatic. Most that go chocolate-vanilla lean warm and cozy. The $kull Gold does both, and the transition from cool to warm is where the composition earns its complexity. Alberto Morillas, working with Parfum concentration, has the structural framework to pull off that kind of hand-off without it feeling disjointed.
The evolution
The bergamot opens bright and almost metallic. Ginger adds clean heat, the kind that prickles without burning. For about 15 minutes, this reads fresh and energizing. Then the spices arrive. Black pepper, cardamom, star anise, a full aromatic chorus that doesn't wait for permission. The transition isn't graceful. It's assertive. Incense smoke threads through the spices, adding an edge that reads as confrontational rather than elegant. By the time the drydown arrives, the warmth has won. Black amber, bourbon vanilla, dark chocolate, sticky, smoky, close to skin. The chocolate note seems to outlive everything else, catching on fabric even after the wash cycle. Some people spray this and get 6-8 hours. Others report the drydown lasting well into the next day. The Parfum concentration is doing the work here.
