The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Yong Rose arrived in 2023 as a limited release from Ormonde Jayne. The fragrance was produced exclusively for Noseway in Taiwan, making it one of the rarer entries in the brand's portfolio. The name suggests permanence, a quality worth pausing on. Production was reportedly discontinued, which means what's out there is what's left. No restocks, no reruns. Just whatever bottles the market still holds. That scarcity isn't about status or collectibility; it's simply a fact about supply. When something exists in finite numbers and then stops, the bottles that remain carry a particular gravity. You're not buying into a marketing story. You're acquiring something finite, one of however many bottles exist in the world right now, and tomorrow there will be fewer.
The composition leans on rose as its gravitational center, but the supporting cast is what makes it work. Davana brings an herbal, almost boozy quality that prevents the rose from sliding into sweetness. The herbal note carries a fermented warmth, something between dried herbs and fruit liqueur, and it grounds the rose in a way that prevents the whole composition from becoming predictable. Then there's castoreum in the base, a polarizing material that adds animal warmth and depth.
The evolution
On skin, Yong Rose doesn't announce itself. The opening is a quick lift of lemon and Sicilian lime, pink pepper adding a faint shimmer underneath before the citrus fades. Davana and orange come forward briefly, warm and slightly fermented, like fruit left too long in a sunlit kitchen. As the opening settles, the rose finds its real voice, supported by mimosa absolute and osmanthus, which give it texture rather than volume. The mimosa adds a soft, honeyed quality that rounds the rose's edges, while osmanthus introduces a fruit-and-leather dimension that keeps the florals grounded. Orchid and hedione keep things buoyant, lifting the florals without sweetening them. Hedione in particular does quiet work here, adding a translucent, almost watery brightness that prevents the heart from feeling dense.
Cultural impact
Yong Rose sits in an unusual place. It's a rose fragrance from a British house, released exclusively in Taiwan through Noseway in 2023. That regional exclusivity makes it hard to pin down in Western fragrance discourse. Most Western collectors and reviewers haven't encountered it in person, and online discussion is limited compared to the brand's more widely available releases. The fragrance exists primarily within Taiwanese fragrance communities and among collectors who specifically seek out regional exclusives. Among those who know it, the response has been notably specific.
