The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
So Tempting joined Oriflame's Love Potion collection in 2018, and the name does a lot of the work upfront. This is a fragrance that knows its lane and refuses to apologize for it. Swedish brand Oriflame, working with perfumer Emilie Bevierre-Coppermann, built this one for someone who wants to smell like a confectionary window, not like a minimalist concept store. The opening is bold and candied, the kind of first impression that announces itself before you've even left the bathroom. There's a generosity to the formula that feels intentional, almost theatrical in how much sweetness it throws at you at once. The florals in the heart are dressed up in confectioner's sugar, never standing alone as clean white petals but always wrapped in syrup and warmth.
The composition leans on heliotrope and honey doing the heavy lifting in the base. That's a pairing worth noting because heliotrope, with its powdery almond-cherry character, gives the sweetness a structural backbone. Without it, this would be one more generic fruity-floral. With it, the gourmand reads almost edible in a sophisticated way, closer to marzipan or a vanilla macaron than to cough syrup. The ylang-ylang adds a tropical density that keeps the florals from floating away, grounding the heart before the honey takes over.
The evolution
The first half hour belongs to apricot and bergamot, bright and almost candied, like a fruit-topped pastry just out of the oven. Mandarin brightens the edges. Then the florals arrive: jasmine and orchid come forward as a team, with ylang-ylang adding a waxy, almost tropical richness that prevents the heart from reading as soapy or thin. The composition tilts into gourmand territory as the wear progresses. Honey thickens everything. Vanilla rounds the corners. Heliotrope's powdery almond-cream character starts to dominate, and this is where the fragrance becomes what it's really trying to be. The drydown is warm, sweet, and intimate, a close-skin blend of candy apple and vanilla-honey that lingers like the memory of a dessert you finished too quickly.
Cultural impact
So Tempting sits firmly in the affordable gourmand category and wears that identity comfortably. It's not trying to be niche or challenging; it wants to make you smell delicious and have a good time doing it. Wearers in the fragrance community compare it to dessert-themed fragrances from brands like Demeter, and that comparison tracks with how the scent performs on skin. It's the kind of fragrance that gets described as a pick-me-up or a mood-improver, something you reach for on a sluggish morning or when you want your day to feel a little softer.
