The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Matcha Ritual arrived in 2026 as part of Oakcha's expanding Tea Collection, a lineup that interprets the ritual and ceremony of tea leaves through wearable scent. Where most green fragrances chase freshness and stop there, this one goes deeper, grounding a delicate top in something rooted and herbal. The idea wasn't just to smell green but to evoke the deliberate stillness of a tea ceremony, the measured calm of preparation rather than the chaos of the day ahead. The composition carries a notable oil concentration of around 30 percent, placing it firmly in territory where intensity and nuance share the room. The brief was aromatic, green, and woody, anchored by freshly whisked matcha rather than built around it as a novelty.
What makes the composition worth a second look is how the matcha sits among notes you wouldn't expect it to. Fennel and clove share the stage, a pairing that leans slightly anise, pulling the sweetness out of the green and giving it structure. Caraway deepens that herbal character, adding warmth without weight, while oakmoss and amber anchor everything to damp earth. The interplay between these ingredients creates something that feels both familiar and unfamiliar, like recognizing a flavor in a dish you can't quite place.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are all snap. Rhubarb and bergamot cut through with a tart, almost mineral sharpness, while lemongrass and mint add a cooling brightness that feels more like cold air than a citrus note. It reads green and awake, the way a garden looks before the sun clears the trees. There's nothing shy about the opening, and the immediate impression is one of crisp, unapologetic freshness. As that brightness burns off, the matcha heart surfaces. Green tea, jasmine, and lily of the valley soften the edges, and fennel starts to hum underneath, adding a subtle anise warmth that shifts the whole mood from crisp to contemplative. This is where the fragrance stops being fresh and starts being interesting.
Cultural impact
Matcha Ritual leans herbal and grounded rather than sweet or gourmand, setting it apart within its own collection. The composition draws on green tea as a central thematic element, pairing it with fennel, clove, caraway, oakmoss, and amber to create something that reads as genuinely botanical rather than artificially green. The choice to anchor the fragrance in matcha and herbal notes rather than more conventional green constructions gives it a distinctive character within the broader landscape of tea-inspired scent.
