Why it exists.
The beginning
Azur landed in 2023, composed by perfumer Benjamin Bélizon. The brief was simple and stated outright by the house: citrus and aromatic freshness at the same time, bergamot and grapefruit doing the heavy lifting. Nysos built its Paris-based line around that clarity of intent, and Azur carries it through with confidence. Bergamot opens with a sharp, almost fizzy brightness, the kind of citrus that cuts through a room without ever turning bitter. Grapefruit folds in next, adding a faint pithy bitterness that keeps the opening from reading too sweet. The aromatic layer underneath, built around lavender and a flash of pink pepper, gives the citrus something to lean against so it doesn't float off the skin.
What makes Azur interesting is the restraint of its structure. Four top notes, four heart notes, five base notes, no fireworks. The tension sits between the aromatic lavender and the bright pink pepper in the opening, one cools, one prickles, and the iris does the quiet bridging work into a base that leans woody and slightly creamy thanks to cashmere wood and sandalwood. The lavender arrives early and reads almost medicinal at first, that clean herbal snap you get from a fresh sprig, then softens as the citrus lifts.
The evolution
The opening belongs to the top. Bergamot, lemon, and grapefruit hit bright and almost tart, sharpened by pink pepper into something that reads clean rather than sweet. The grapefruit brings a faint bitterness that keeps the blend from collapsing into simple citrus syrup, while the lemon lifts the whole thing with a sharper edge. Lavender arrives early and adds an herbal coolness that keeps the citrus from going flat, its camphorated snap blending into the pepper rather than sitting on top of it. The heart settles in gradually: ginger brings a dry warmth, not hot, more like sun-warmed skin, while iris softens the edges and rounds out any sharp corners left from the opening. Jasmine threads through as a white-flower whisper rather than a statement, just enough to add a creamy sweetness underneath the aromatic layer. As the composition moves along, the base asserts itself.
