The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mohur takes its name from the Moghul dynasty, the emperors who made rose water a language of power and ceremony. Neela Vermeire Creations tasked Bertrand Duchaufour with translating that opulence into a wearable composition. The result doesn't try to recreate history. It inhabits it. The Extrait concentration arrived in 2014, pushing the original's rose and leather pairing into richer territory, more resin, more depth, more hours on skin.
What makes Mohur Extrait interesting is the way the leather and rose coexist. They shouldn't work together, one is regal and floral, the other is raw and animal. But Duchaufour bridges them with carrot seed and ambrette, two materials that add a powdery, almost musky depth beneath the florals. The orris root and hawthorn in the heart give the rose a waxy, slightly bitter quality that stops it from becoming saccharine. It's a composition that rewards attention.
The evolution
The first spray hits sharp and resinous. Cardamom and coriander seed announce themselves quickly, then the elemi adds a warm, citrus-adjacent brightness. Within twenty minutes, the Moroccan rose takes over, velvety, with a powdery edge that feels vintage without being dated. The jasmine and orris root deepen the floral heart, and the leather note begins to emerge, not as a dominant force but as structure. By the third hour, the rose has settled into the benzoin and vanilla of the base. The sandalwood and oud create a creamy, slightly sweet drydown that stays close to the skin for hours. This is a fragrance that doesn't rush. It builds, it deepens, it lingers.
Cultural impact
Mohur Extrait sits in a specific corner of the niche world, for the wearer who has moved past safe florals and wants something with history and weight. It's not a crowd-pleaser by design. It's for the person who smells it and thinks of emperors, not trends. The Moghul-inspired aesthetic channels something ancient and particular, with cardamom and coriander anchoring the opening to a specific place and time.
