Oud Mafia

What makes Oud Mafia structurally interesting is the interplay between two resinous materials that rarely share equal billing. Oud brings its characteristic dark, almost leathery warmth, while frankincense contributes a smoky, slightly camphorated brightness. These two don't compete, they negotiate. The Gurjum balsam in the heart acts as a bridge, its own balsamic sweetness smoothing the transition between the sharp opening and the earthy base. Sumatran patchouli and vetiver then anchor everything into a drydown that stays close to skin but lingers for hours, while Orcanox adds a subtle woody-amberic depth that gives the base staying power without loudness.

The evolution

The opening hits fast. Saffron blossom and nutmeg arrive together, the nutmeg lending a slight nuttiness that keeps the saffron from being purely sweet. Within minutes, the oud and frankincense move to the front, smoke and warmth occupying the same space. The white thyme is present but recessive, more aromatic breath than dominant note. By the second hour, the heart has settled into something resinous and deep. The drydown is where Oud Mafia earns its reputation. Vetiver and patchouli don't disappear, they become the floor, the foundation you can still detect the next morning on fabric.
