Why it exists.
The beginning
Philosophy of Tao landed in 2025, a collaboration between MITH and Calice Becker. The concept began, as it does with this house, from something felt rather than something sold: a search for balance, translated through the warmth of Thai memory and Becker's approach to composition. Rather than chasing complexity for its own sake, the brief asked for a small, complete moment held inside glass. Becker brought to it a working knowledge built over many years in the studio, shaping fragrances that favor clarity over ornament. The result is a scent that reads less like a statement and more like a long, unhurried exhale.
What sets this composition apart is the quiet friction between its materials. Apricot and pink pepper create a soft, glistening tension at the opening, neither fully sweet nor sharp, just warm and alert. The heart turns unexpectedly contemplative, smoke and tea and rum sitting in a single breath like three different memories sharing a table. Each material holds its own weight without overwhelming the others, and the transitions between them feel almost inevitable, as if the fragrance already knew where it was going before you did.
The evolution
On skin, the opening lasts longer than you'd expect, apricot and bergamot holding their shape like light caught on glass, their fruit and citrus facets turning slowly against one another. Pink pepper moves through early in the wear, a small heat at the edges, before settling back. The tea note arrives in its own time, dry and steeped, pulling the composition into a quieter register that feels almost meditative.
