The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Part of MiN NEW YORK's Scent Stories series, each fragrance a chapter in an ongoing narrative, STARDUST arrived in 2019 as the third installment of volume three. The name isn't metaphor. The brand's copy is explicit: every atom of human existence traces back to an exploding star. The fragrance is meant to translate that cosmic biography into something you can wear, finite souls, infinite universe, and all the weight of both in a bottle.
What makes STARDUST structurally interesting is the aldehyde-floral balance. Aldehydes have a history, Chanel No. 5 made them iconic, but the association with 'grandmother's perfume' has followed for decades. Here, the aldehydes aren't heavy or soapy. They're the opening sparkle, the metallic shimmer that makes violet and carnation feel luminous rather than dusty. It's a compositional choice that either earns your trust or doesn't, and the tonka bean in the base ensures the florals don't float away entirely.
The evolution
It opens with a burst. Aldehydes crackle bright and sharp, violet follows immediately, soft and powdery, while carnation adds a spice that doesn't push. Twenty minutes in, the florals take over: Egyptian jasmine and Turkish rose in equal measure, with Tunisian orange blossom threading through. This is the heart of the fragrance, and it lingers with creamy white florals that feel substantial and intentional. Musk and tonka bean settle in quietly, adding warmth and softness. Oakmoss lingers in the background, not dominant but present, keeping the sweetness honest. On fabric, this one persists into the next day, a quiet reminder that lingers long after you apply it.
Cultural impact
STARDUST belongs to the aldehydic tradition, its composition drawing from a legacy of luminous florals while standing on its own terms. It offers a fresh take on a classic style, approachable yet unmistakably sophisticated. The fragrance fits naturally into the MiN NEW YORK world, where stories matter more than trends and wearers appreciate the craft behind each bottle. Its celestial framing invites curiosity and rewards attention.
