The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
PLUSH is Chapter 02 of MiN NEW YORK's Scent Stories Volume 2, a collection where each fragrance translates a specific sensory quality into scent. The brief was simple and unusual: translate the pleasure of touching something soft. Not the visual of softness, not the concept of it, the actual tactile experience. Chad Murawczyk and the MiN team worked with that question as their compass. The result is a fragrance built around a paradox: it opens green and metallic from galbanum, then melts into something warm, sweet, and impossibly soft. Of all the Scent Stories releases, PLUSH is the only one that uses almond extract, that specific sweetness, as a structural element rather than an accent.
Almond extract in perfumery behaves differently than bitter almond or benzaldehyde. It carries a warm, edible sweetness that reads as comforting without being sugary. Here it anchors the entire composition, present from the opening, never fully disappearing. The galbanum isn't just contrast; it's what makes the softness interesting. Without that metallic, slightly bitter edge, the almond would be flat. The clove does quiet work too, adding warmth that keeps the florals from floating away into abstraction. By the time you reach the base, musk, vanilla, ambergris, the fragrance has traveled from green sharpness to warm softness, and the journey is the point.
The evolution
The opening announces itself with galbanum's metallic green, sharp, almost astringent, like cutting through cream. Within minutes, the almond sweetness takes over, warm and edible, almost gourmand. The clove sits underneath, adding spice that never heats. The handoff to the heart phase is gradual: jasmine and orange blossom emerge softly, not in a sudden floral bloom but as if the composition always contained them. Iris adds powdery elegance, smoothing the transition. By hour three, the drydown takes over, musk wrapping vanilla wrapping ambergris in a warm, animalic embrace that stays close to the skin. The sillage is moderate, intimate. You'll catch traces of it on your wrist eight hours later, and that's when PLUSH reveals its true character: not a statement fragrance, but a companion. The kind you reach for again.
Cultural impact
PLUSH has become one of MiN NEW YORK's signature releases, a best seller within a line known for conceptual depth. Its appeal lies in accessibility without compromise: a fragrance that rewards close attention while remaining versatile enough for daily wear. The almond note sets it apart from other musky florals in the niche market, and the moderate sillage has made it a quiet favorite among those who want scent to be personal rather than announced.
