Why it exists.
The beginning
Floral Fantasy arrived in 2024 as part of the Mercedes-Benz For Women lineup, composed by perfumer Alexis Dadier. Dadier built the composition around contrast rather than convention, opening with blackcurrant bud and gentian for a sharp, almost bitter brightness that cuts against the soft trajectory of most floral fragrances. The blackcurrant brings a jammy tartness, while the gentian contributes an earthy, root-driven bitterness, a green character that feels bracing and immediate rather than decorative. From there, blood orange and neroli round the edges with their citrus lift and soft floral warmth. It's a scent aimed at the hybrid woman who fully embraces herself, confident and composed, with no single mood or moment defining her.
The opening centers on gentian, a root material with an earthy, slightly bitter edge that brings a green intensity to the composition. Pairing it with blackcurrant bud amplifies that sharpness before blood orange and neroli soften the edges with their brighter, rounder warmth. Carrot seed adds a dry, hay-like quality that brings an earthy depth, bridging the heart to the mossy, woody base below.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes belong to the blackcurrant-cassis burst, bright, almost tart, layered over gentian's earthy bitterness and a sweep of generic citrus. It smells less like a flower and more like cracking open a cold drink on a warm day. There's a slight synthetic edge early on, noticeable but not off-putting, a clean, almost waxy freshness that reads more modern than natural. After thirty minutes, the gentian recedes and green tea steps forward, carrying neroli's soft floral soapiness and the dry, rooty quality of carrot seed. The composition settles into something quieter and more vegetal, like the green part of a garden rather than the flowers. By the two-hour mark, the fruit and tea have largely dissolved. What remains is a soft wash of Kashmiri musk and moss, woody and slightly sweet, close to the skin.
