Why it exists.
The beginning
Maison Violet's 2018 revival brought three École Supérieure du Parfum graduates together to resurrect a house dormant since the mid-twentieth century. Their mission was to interpret the original 1923 violet-centric perfume for contemporary tastes, and they enlisted perfumer Nathalie Lorson to bridge historical violet traditions with modern perfumery. The choice of Lorson proved strategic, as her experience with powdery, floral compositions aligned perfectly with the house's heritage and the new interpretation's goals.
The note selection reflects a philosophy of layered complexity rather than linear progression. Violet and Iris are natural companions, sharing powdery dimensions that create immediate coherence. The addition of Violet Leaf prevents the composition from becoming static, introducing dynamic green qualities. Rose adds classicism, while Peach and Plum ground the floral structure in approachability. Oakmoss and Benzoin serve as the structural anchors, ensuring the fragrance retains depth and longevity. The absence of a traditional opening or drydown reflects a deliberate choice to remain in this intermediate, heart-centric space.
