The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
First Lady arrived in 2024 from Laverne, a house that has built a catalogue of modern compositions. Nathalie Lorson was tapped to build it. The result is a composition that opens with fruit and citrus, moves through a white floral heart, and lands on a soft woody base. The opening is generous, almost entirely fruit, and it's playful without tipping into territory that feels like confectionery. Grapefruit cuts in first with a clean, sharp edge, then peach and apple swell in, round and ripe, while orange blossom threads through them like a warm current. The white florals arrive relatively early, keeping the fruit from running unchecked. Jasmine and Damask rose anchor the heart, giving the tropical fruit accord a structure instead of letting it drift.
What makes First Lady worth a second look is the balance Lorson strikes between the playful and the composed. Orange blossom, peach, grapefruit, and apple form an opening that could easily tip into candy territory, but the white florals arrive early enough to keep things grounded. Jasmine and Damask rose anchor the heart, giving the tropical fruit accord a frame instead of letting it run. The base of sandalwood, cedarwood, and musk pulls the whole thing toward skin temperature.
The evolution
The opening is almost entirely fruit, and it's generous. Grapefruit cuts first, sharp and clean, then peach and apple round it out while orange blossom threads through like a warm breeze. The white florals start arriving as the fruit softens, a gradual handoff rather than a sudden break. Jasmine enters first, but it's the Damask rose that takes the lead, settling into the composition with a soft, slightly powdery warmth that replaces the fruit's brightness without erasing it. The tropical accord in the heart is subtle, more suggestion than statement, lending a creamy sweetness to the florals. As the fragrance wears, the base arrives fully, taking over as the florals fade. Sandalwood and cedarwood give it a quiet, woody backbone while musk wraps everything in a skin-close warmth.
Cultural impact
First Lady reads as a scent that bridges playful and composed, with a fruit-forward opening and a soft white floral heart that makes it wearable and approachable. The sandalwood-musk base keeps it anchored, giving the composition a quiet depth that holds even as the brighter top notes fade. It fits a daytime setting as easily as an evening one, versatile in how it wears and how it sits on the skin. The balance of fruit, florals, and wood gives it a structure that feels both modern and familiar, the kind of fragrance that doesn't announce itself but settles in and stays.
