Why it exists.
The beginning
Ombra di Tiglio was born from L'Erbolario's long-standing fascination with the linden tree, whose blossoms have long been prized in Italian herbal tradition for their soothing aroma. In 2013 the house set out to capture that gentle shade, the shadow of the tiglio, translating the flower's fresh, soft character into a wearable form. The perfumer worked with linden blossom as the emotional core, building outward with complementary citrus and floral elements to create something that feels both botanical and personal.
The note selection reflects L'Erbolario's commitment to botanical authenticity. Linden blossom is the anchor, but the supporting cast matters: violet leaf adds structure and contrast, amber adds depth without heaviness, and white moss provides that characteristic Italian herbal cleanliness. Tog ether they create a fragrance that reads as natural rather than constructed, the kind of scent that seems to come from the garden rather than the laboratory.
The evolution
The fragrance moves from bright to Intimate. Lemon and orange blossom open the composition with crisp energy, quickly joined by linden blossom's honeyed sweetness. As the top notes recede, violet leaf emerges, adding a green, almost vegetable freshness that distinguishes the heart from typical powdery florals. Rose and lily temper the violet leaf's edge, while heliotrope contributes a soft, almond-like warmth.
