The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ethic arrived in 2020 as part of Paris Corner's nine-fragrance rollout, a Middle Eastern house built on oil-forward compositions designed for projection and longevity. The fragrance draws from the smoky, resinous tradition of high-end Arabian perfumery, where oud serves as the foundational note and incense provides the aromatic backbone. Ethic sits within the Killer Oud line, positioned alongside scents that share an unapologetic boldness and a reference to the great oriental woody compositions of the region.
What makes Ethic distinctive is its layered approach to warmth and smoke. The top opens with a complex spice blend, cardamom, pink pepper, cumin, and saffron, that arrives with immediate force. Red berries add a dark, jammy lift that tempers the heat. Throughout the composition, incense appears twice: once in the opening to set the smoky tone, and again in the base, where it anchors the oud and leather drydown. The result is a fragrance that feels both structured and atmospheric, with a smoky thread running from first spray to final fade.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, cardamom, pink pepper, and saffron arrive together with real force. The cumin adds a savory depth that prevents it from reading as purely sweet. Within minutes, the incense smoke rises, and the red berries give way to something darker and more resinous. The heart phase brings geranium and myrrh, adding a floral-green warmth that bridges the bright opening to the deep base. The transition is smooth, almost imperceptible. By the time the drydown settles, the oud and leather have taken over. Castoreum adds an animalic warmth that lingers close to the skin. The smoky incense persists through the entire drydown, wrapping around sandalwood and patchouli in a long, resinous finish that stays intimate and close. On most skin types, this holds for 6-8 hours before fading to a quiet oud-and-smoke memory.
Cultural impact
Ethic belongs to a lineage of Gulf-region fragrances that draw from the smoky, resinous tradition of high-end Arabian perfumery. Paris Corner openly positions its Killer Oud line as inspired by Amouage Interlude, the benchmark composition in this style. Ethic takes that reference and narrows the focus, less complexity, more directness. Wearers describe it as the scent of someone who walks into a room and doesn't need to announce themselves.
