The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
VIII Rococo Immortelle was built around a flower that rarely appears in masculine perfumery: immortelle. Perfumer Celia Orozco Ciracio chose it as the heart of this 2017 release, placing it between a crisp citrus opening and a dry, papyrus-led base. Bergamot and lemon open clean, almost sharp. Then the immortelle arrives and refuses to be ignored, asserting its presence in the composition. Papyrus and vetiver anchor the drydown into something smoky and enduring. It's a fragrance that asks to be noticed, then rewards the attention it draws. The overall effect is one of confident presence, a scent that speaks clearly and holds its ground.
The pyramid places immortelle at its center, allowing that distinctive character to dominate without competition. Bergamot and lemon dissolve into it, papyrus and vetiver emerge beneath it. The three base notes, papyrus, vetiver, amber, provide a foundation that gives the drydown its depth and staying power. There's a sense that the fragrance moves as one continuous composition rather than shifting through disconnected phases.
The evolution
The citrus hits first, bergamot and lemon arriving together, bright and immediate. Then the immortelle begins to assert itself, its character emerging through the citrus like sunlight breaking through. As the composition develops, the citrus recedes and the immortelle takes command. The drydown brings papyrus first, with its dry, almost paper-like quality that cuts through the earlier brightness. Vetiver follows, adding earth and smoke, and amber arrives last, warming everything underneath. The immortelle persists through the entire drydown, evolving from dominant note into something quieter, present but restrained. On skin, the fragrance maintains its presence well into the evening.
Cultural impact
VIII Rococo Immortelle occupies an interesting position in masculine perfumery: the immortelle note remains uncommon in the category. The fragrance appeals to those who want something that stands apart from the typical masculine fragrance offering, offering an alternative approach to masculine scent.
