The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Wojood is an Arabic word meaning existence, presence, being. That's the brief Khayali gave this composition: not a mood, not a place, but a declaration that someone is in the room. The cypriol oil up top, also known as nagarmotha, telegraphs the intent immediately. It carries that scorched-earth quality, close to vetiver but wilder, less polite, more elemental. A thread of citrus cuts through, lemon and orange bright against the smoke, just enough to let the rest of the composition breathe. Beneath that, the oud arrives, resinous and unsoftened, paired with rose and a heart of mint and white florals that sharpen rather than sweeten. Wojood doesn't perform modesty. It performs presence.
The unusual move here is the mint. Threaded through the heart of the composition, it adds a green sharpness that cuts the rose and white floral sweetness before it gets too pretty. The animalic base does the rest. Where a standard musk note reads as clean skin or laundry, animalic musk pulls toward something more lived-in: warmth, fur, a dense closeness that sits on the skin like a second layer. It's not aggressive, but it's not polite either. Pair that with patchouli and amber, and the drydown earns its name. Wojood. Existence. You feel it.
The evolution
The opening arrives sharp and green. Cypriol oil smokes underneath while lemon and orange give the top a citrus skin that doesn't linger long before the heart takes over. That's where Wojood shifts. The oud settles in, deep and resinous, and the rose enters quietly, more petal than syrup. Mint adds a cooling thread that runs through the middle of the composition like a window cracked open in a warm room. White florals soften the edges without sweetening them. An hour in, the base has fully arrived: animalic musk, patchouli, amber. This is the Wojood the name promises. The animalic note doesn't disappear; it deepens, and what started as a smoky-citrus opening has become something warm, close, and undeniably present. The drydown holds that amber and oud close to the skin, dry, faintly sweet, and lasting well into the evening as the brighter notes fade into memory.
Cultural impact
Wojood lands firmly within the oud-forward tradition, and wearers who gravitate toward it tend to want exactly that: animalic warmth, resinous depth, and a composition that doesn't sand off its edges. The fragrance shares shelf space, in fragrance communities and recommendation lists, with other notable oud compositions like Amouage Opus IX and Afnan Naseej Al Oud, both of which carry their own takes on the ingredient. Wojood doesn't hide behind its oud. It leads with it, and the animalic base ensures the wearer knows it's there from the first spray to the final hours of drydown.
